A uniquely indigenous South African measure, the WQHE was developed for the assessment of wellness among higher education student populations. It can be used as a diagnostic tool and also as an instrument in the provision of quality-assured student development opportunities.

The WQHE provides an opportunity to describe group and / or individuals’ wellness profiles and to follow this up with tailored services and programmes to facilitate individual or group development. Such development may be completely self-managed and applies to all students, whether or not they are already well-developed.

Recommended test development guidelines were closely followed, including the submission of the manual and test materials to the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for test classification in 2010. Adequate reliability and validity coefficients have been obtained for this completely indigenous South African measure, and we are patiently awaiting the results of the test classification process.
